Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line the bottom with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together to ensure even distribution.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy—about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, making sure each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk and orange juice. Start and end with the dry ingredients to avoid overmixing. Fold in the orange zest last.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer them to a cooling rack and let them cool completely.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  9. Once the cakes are completely cool, pour the glaze over the top, letting it drip down the sides.

Make sure your eggs and butter are at room temperature for a smooth batter. Let the cakes cool fully before glazing to avoid the glaze running too much.
