  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (150 g) fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with 1/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  3. Hull and slice 1 cup fresh strawberries into thin pieces. Toss them gently with 1 teaspoon lemon juice.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, unfold each sheet of thawed puff pastry. Cut each sheet into 6 equal squares (approx. 4×4 inches). You’ll have 12 squares total.
  5. Take one square, and spread about 1 tablespoon of cream cheese filling in the center, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the edges.
  6. Arrange a few slices of strawberries on top of the cream cheese, being careful not to overload.
  7. To form the heart, pinch the bottom two corners of each square together, gently pressing to seal. Slightly round off the top corners to create the heart shape.
  8. Lightly brush the beaten egg over the pastry edges for a golden finish.
  9. Place the heart danishes on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
  10. Let cool for 5 minutes on the pan, then transfer to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving.

Notes

Ensure puff pastry is fully thawed but still cold before working with it to maintain flaky layers. Do not overload filling to avoid soggy pastry. Use egg wash for a golden, shiny finish. Can be made ahead and refrigerated up to 12 hours before baking.
