Instructions

  1. Crush the Oreos: Place about 20 Oreo cookies in a food processor and pulse until fine crumbs. Alternatively, crush in a sealed plastic bag with a rolling pin. Set aside. (5 minutes)
  2. Prepare the melted cheese mixture: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese and 3 tablespoons melted unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring in between, until cheese is fully melted and smooth. (3-4 minutes)
  3. Add seasonings: Stir in 1 teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon onion powder, a pinch of salt, and freshly ground black pepper to taste into the melted cheese mixture. Mix well. (1 minute)
  4. Combine dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine crushed Oreos and 4 cups Rice Krispies cereal. Toss lightly to mix evenly. (2 minutes)
  5. Mix wet and dry: Pour melted cheese mixture over Oreo and cereal blend. Gently fold together with a spatula, coating all cereal without crushing. (3 minutes)
  6. Add Parmesan and herbs: If using, sprinkle ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese and 1 tablespoon chopped chives or parsley into the mix. Fold gently to distribute. (1-2 minutes)
  7. Press into pan: Line an 8×8 inch (20×20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper. Transfer mixture and press firmly into an even layer using spatula or hands wrapped in parchment. (5 minutes)
