These ultimate chocolate chip cookies are perfectly gooey in the center with chewy edges, made from simple pantry ingredients and a straightforward method for delicious, comforting treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (227 grams) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150 grams) packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50 grams) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups (280 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups (270 grams) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  2. In a large bowl, beat softened butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract and mix until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, folding gently until just combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips evenly.
  7. Optional: Chill dough for at least 30 minutes up to overnight for better flavor and texture.
  8. Use a medium cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop dough balls onto prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden but centers look slightly underbaked.
  10. Cool cookies on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to set.

Notes

Chilling the dough is optional but highly recommended for improved flavor and chewiness. Avoid overmixing the dough to keep cookies tender. Pull cookies out when centers look slightly underbaked to maintain gooeyness. Use room temperature eggs and softened butter for best results.
