A comforting and nostalgic recipe combining buttery Texas toast with a rich, meaty Sloppy Joe filling. Perfect for busy weeknights or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 slices Texas toast
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C). Place the Texas toast slices on a baking sheet and set them aside.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks (about 5-7 minutes).
  3. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium and stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. While the filling is simmering, bake the Texas toast in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
  6. Optional: Sprinkle shredded cheese over the Texas toast during the last minute of baking for a melted, cheesy finish.
  7. To assemble, spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture generously over each slice of Texas toast. Serve immediately and enjoy!
