Irish Mule

Irish Mule recipe - featured image

A refreshing Irish whiskey cocktail served in a classic copper mug, combining smooth Irish whiskey, zesty fresh lime juice, and spicy ginger beer for a lively and sophisticated drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz Irish whiskey (e.g., Jameson or Bushmills)
  • 1/2 oz fresh lime juice (about 15 ml)
  • 46 oz ginger beer (120180 ml)
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedge or wheel (for garnish)
  • Fresh mint sprig (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Chill your copper mug in the freezer for about 10 minutes before making the cocktail.
  2. Roll the lime on the counter, cut in half, and squeeze out 1/2 oz (15 ml) of fresh lime juice using a citrus juicer, avoiding seeds.
  3. Pour 2 oz (60 ml) of Irish whiskey into the chilled copper mug, followed by the fresh lime juice.
  4. Fill the mug about three-quarters full with ice cubes.
  5. Slowly pour 4 to 6 oz (120 to 180 ml) of ginger beer over the ice, pouring gently to preserve carbonation.
  6. Stir gently with a spoon or stirrer to combine flavors without flattening the ginger beer.
  7. Garnish with a lime wedge or wheel and optionally a sprig of fresh mint. Serve immediately.

Notes

Always use fresh lime juice for the best flavor. Chilling the copper mug enhances the drinking experience by keeping the cocktail icy cold. Stir gently to preserve the ginger beer’s fizz. Adjust ginger beer quantity to taste. For a lower sugar option, choose diet ginger beer. Variations include adding cinnamon or nutmeg for a spiced twist or muddling berries for a fruity dimension.
